John has been involved with the AJFC for 11 years and is as current life member. John’s journey at the club has seen him coach U9, U10, U11A, U13A, U14A, U16 A, and U16C age groups. Along the way he has managed to coach 3 winning Grand Finals with the U11A, U13A, and U16C age groups.
More recently John has spent much of his time working with the Altona Football Club senior divisions. As a CoCoach for the U18A side in 2011 & 2012, and again in 2014 & 2015 as the U18A Primary Coach, John managed to coach all four groups to the Grand Final in each year. In 2014 he also served as Assistant Coach for the senior division, and as the Runner for the senior division in 2015.
Under 17C Coach - Paul Stewart
A past AJFC player, Paul has been involved with coaching at the club since 2015 and in his first year coached his Under 16 group to the finals. Paul again coached this Under 17 group in 2016.
Paul is a passionate and dedicated coach who has spent his time playing senior football at the Williamstown U19 VFA squad, Lexton Football Club, and Spotswood Football Club.
In 2017, Paul will work very closely with John Szanyi, senior coaches, and the Junior Development Manager to help link players to senior football through the club's development & pathway program.
Under 15A Coach - Frank Grima
Frank has a long and successful history with this group of players, coaching most of them since Under 9’s. In 2013 Frank coached this team to a successful Premiership win in the Under 12 B Division, and again in 2016 in the Under 14 B Division resulting in the team being transferred into the A Division in both the following years.
A current AFL Trainer for the Richmond Football Club, Frank helps brings depth & structure from his experience working at the elite football level. Frank is also a Level 1 Accredited Coach and is committed to continuing to provide a greater level of challenges for the team while playing the 2017 season within the A division.
Under 14B Coach - Jason Walsh
A past AJFC player, Jason spent two years as Assistant Coach with this team before being appointed the teams' Coach in 2015. In 2015 Jason coached this team to their first Grand Final experience in the Under 12 B Division, and again continued as the teams Coach in the 13 A division in 2016.
Prior to this, Jason also spent the 2011 & 2012 seasons as Assistant Coach for the current bottom age Under 17 age group.
Jason is a Level 1 Accredited Coach and is looking forward to further developing player skill & confidence levels while guiding his team through the 2017 season. Jason also holds the position as the clubs Junior Coach’s Coordinator.
Under 13A Coach - Scott Perry
After spending the 2015 season as the team's Assistant Coach & Runner, Scott was appointed Coach for 2016 & 2017 to further develop skill levels and structure within the team.
As an experienced senior footballer previously playing with Williamstown, Port Colts, & Altona Football Clubs, Scott will teach the playing group the importance of training, and build skill & confidence levels.
Scott will also focus on ensuring Player, Coach, and teammate relationships are built, and that the playing group enjoys the season, and benefit from his playing experience.
Under 12 Coach - Mark Wheeler
Mark was again appointed Coach of this group after a very successful 2016 season, resulting in a Premiership win in the Under 11 West Division.
Mark has continued to focus on teaching the game's fundamentals and club's values to this group for the past two years. Now in their second year of competition football, Mark will continue to promote his philosophy and provide his experience to this playing group.
Mark has spent time playing football at a senior level at Gippsland and Coolangatta football clubs, Mark will also continue to implement skill development, and ensure the game is always played in good spirit.
Under 11 Coach - Brett Robinson
After two fantastic seasons as the Under 10s Coach, Brett was again chosen to coach the Under 11s for the 2017 season. It’s always an exciting season for this age group as they transfer through to their first year of competition football which now consists of game points and a position on a ladder.
Always positive and approachable, Brett is able to engage, communicate, and teach in an environment that is challenging for most of us. Brett is a Level 1 Accredited Coach and plans to ensure skills development remains the core focus, and is looking forward to introducing his team to competition football.
Under 10 Coach - Leigh Taylor
A past AJFC player, Leigh has been appointed the coaching position of the Under 10 age group after a very successful 2016 season as Coach of the Under 9s.
Leigh has extensive experience at a junior level as a coach and also care coordinator, he has also coached U10, U12, and U14 age groups at local Basketball level, and also has 14 years of coordinating before & after school care programs.
As a Level 1 Coach with the energy to match our junior Vikings, and an outstanding passion to educate, Leigh remains focused on introducing our young players to the fundamentals of the game whilst building their confidence and understanding of a team environment.
Under 9 Coach - Matt Turcinovich
As a current junior player himself, the Altona Junior Football club are proud to again have Matt on board as a coach at our club.
As an Assistant Coach in 2016 for the Under 8s, Matt very quickly proved to be a great coach & role model for our young Vikings. With the enthusiasm and energy required to keep this young age group entertained and focused at training and on game days, Matt is able to capture the group’s attention with his charisma, enthusiasm, and knowledge of the game.
As a junior player, Matt has represented the AJFC at WRFL Interleague Carnivals. In 2012 he presented 4th at the WRFL League Best & Fairest Awards for the Under 11 age group, and also presented 1st place in the WRFL Leading Goal Kicker Award. In 2016, Matt also received the AJFC Best Junior Clubman Award.

Junior Development Manager - Vinnie Turcinovich
A Level 2 Accredited Coach, Vinnie has coached at AJFC since 2011. Having spent time as a senior player at Williamstown, Werribee, and Spotswood, Vinnie has also held Assistant, Forwards, and fitness coaching roles at senior level with Port Melbourne, St Albans, Avondale Heights, and Altona football clubs.
With experience as a WRFL Interleague Coach, and Assistant Coach for the Western Jets, Vinnie has again been appointed as AJFC Junior Development Manager to steer the clubs development program for players and coaches, maximising opportunities for our young talented players, and assist with the clubs Under 17 pathway program, and transition into senior football.
