Altona Football Club was established in 1918 in a Pier Street café by James Duke, Dick Blomberg and a number of other business people from Altona.

In 1965, the Club expanded to include Juniors, who then in 1991 transitioned to their own entity as the Altona Junior Football Club. Both clubs are still very closely aligned as one large ‘Vikings’ family, continuing to share the same Purple & Gold colours and theme song.

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday to celebrate our players and another fantastic year at Altona Junior Football Club.

As President Mick shared during his speech, 349 kids pulled on the purple and gold and played footy for Altona this season. That simply wouldn’t be possible without the tireless work of our committee behind the scenes, our coaches and volunteers, and all the parents who turn up week after week so our kids can play the sport they love. To every person who contributed throughout the season - thank you! 💜💛

It was wonderful to come together and recognise the achievements of our players, teams and volunteers.

And here’s what makes that achievement even more incredible…

Five of these six girls have only been playing football for two seasons. 🤯

To make a Grand Final is an achievement in itself. To win one is something special. To do it twice in your first two seasons? That’s pretty extraordinary.

A huge congratulations to Klara, Mia, Aja, Gracie, Alexis and Araliya. 💜💛

Congratulations to Mason Pearce, who was named Best on Ground in his team’s Grand Final victory! 👏💜

Mason is new to the Vikings this year, having played the majority of his football at another local club, and what a season he has had!

Across 13 games in Division 4, Mason was named among the best players an incredible 10 times. ⭐️

But what a story to finish his first season with the Vikings - Best on Ground in a Grand Final victory! 🏆

We couldn’t be prouder of you, Mason. What an achievement!

What a day! 💜💛

Klara Dragovic from our U14 Girls Gold team celebrated her 100th game in the Grand Final!

To reach 100 games of football while still only 13 years old is an amazing achievement. Klara has been a Viking since U8s, has represented the WFNL in Interleague for the past two years and this year is co-captain of our U14 Girls Gold team.

A talented defender, Klara has been a key part of her team’s backline, known for her long kicks and ability to read the game. She also managed to sneak in a few goals this season - including one in the Grand Final! 🏆

It has been a pleasure watching Klara play, develop and grow into the talented footballer she is today.

100 games AND a winning Grand Final! What a milestone, what a season and what a story!

Well done, Klara! We couldn’t be prouder. 💜💛

U14 Girls Gold 💜💛

What a season. What a story.

Our U14 Girls Gold team went undefeated through the home and away season, finishing top of the ladder.

Their first finals challenge was St Bernards in the Qualifying Final. In absolutely arctic conditions, the girls dug deep to secure a 36-point victory and their place in the Grand Final.

Waiting for them was Point Cook - undoubtedly the team to beat.

Altona had won both home and away meetings by 15 and 40 points, but the Grand Final was always going to be different.

The first two quarters were incredibly even, with Point Cook holding a 2-point lead at half time.

Spurred on by coaches Matt and Paul and the girl’s families and friends, they came out firing in the third, kicking 2 goals 2 to Point Cook’s one behind.

Then came the nail-biting final quarter.

Altona couldn’t score. Point Cook had the ball inside their 50 for the final 2–3 minutes.

Two shots at goal went begging.

And our backline stood TALL.

Altona 18 defeated Point Cook 15.

A 3-point Grand Final victory. 🏆

Undefeated all season. Top of the ladder. And now premiers.

What a win. What a season. WHAT A STORY!

And how good is this for girls’ footy! 💜💛🏆
